Need a room plastered quickly? Want to improve the profit margin on a refurbishment? Require cost-effective, high-quality plastering for a new build? Dry lining is the ideal solution in each of these cases. But, aside from efficiency and cost effectiveness, there’s a whole range of advantages to choosing dry lining. So this blog considers “What are the benefits of dry lining?” and comes up with a few that may surprise you.

Dry Lining – The Basics

Traditional plastering methods use wet materials which are applied to walls, crafted to a smooth surface, and allowed to dry. The drying can take anything between 3-7 days, depending on the environment. Dry Lining replaces wet plaster with plaster board that is fixed directly to the wall, or a framework which holds it in place. Installation is fast, there’s no drying time, and the finish is superb.

The Benefits of Dry Lining

The Logic Plastering team has come up with 6, on top of its affordability and rapid installation:

1. It Improves Insulation

When you install dry lining, a cavity is created between the wall and the plasterboard. This can be packed with insulating material to prevent energy loss and retain heat in the winter, and cool air in the summer. Dry lining insulation will also stop condensation from forming.

2. A Variety of Dry Lining Boards

Need peace and quiet in your new home office? Choose acoustic panels which will dampen down noise and minimise reverberation. Other dry lining specialist applications include fire board, foil backed board to minimise odour seepage and damp, and finally aqua board for bathrooms.

3. Paint-Ready Surfaces

Dry lining can be used to reshape a ceiling, partition a room, or simply to provide smooth walls ready for decorating. Once installed, the joints between the boards are taped, screw heads are filled and the surface is sanded down and lightly skimmed to provide your paint-ready surface.

4. Pipes and Wires Disappear

Dry lining is particularly popular when it comes to loft conversions, office fit outs, or extensions. Apart from the speed and finish, it can also hide unseemly pipes and wires. The flexibility of the system means that panelling can be created which provides easy access, should it be required.

5. A Lightweight Alternative to Plaster

Traditional plasterwork is heavier than dry ling boards, it’s also more difficult to maintain. Plaster board won’t crack, so there won’t be the need for repairs or re-plastering to factor in to your investment.

6. A Flexible System

Removing the plaster from a wall is a costly business. Whereas dry lining can be removed and re-used efficiently, without it costing you a fortune. It’s particularly popular for offices which configure according to use, and so need a system that can adapt easily.
